The Breed is the third episode of season one of Static Shock. It premiered on October 7, 2000.
Synopsis[]
Dakota High track star, Derek Barnett, gets scouted by a Bang Baby gang when he can no longer control his mutation. Static tries his best to stop him from going down the wrong path.
Major Events[]
- Derek Barnett is introduced and revealed to be a Bang Baby who struggles to control his powers.
- Ebon debuts, convincing Derek to join his Bang Baby gang, the Meta-Breed.
- The Meta-Breed gangs up on Static and invites him to join the gang. He rejects them but recognizes Derek.
- Richie figures out where the Breed's hideout is and Static goes to convince Derek to leave the gang.
- After they escape, Derek reunites with his mother and agrees to become a guinea pig for further Bang Baby research.

- Following the Big Bang in episode 1, meta-humans, or "Bang Babies", have been appearing around Dakota. This includes villains, some of whom go on to form Bang Baby gangs. The Meta-Breed is the first of these villain groups to be introduced.

- Derek Barnett / D-Struct is never seen nor mentioned again after this episode despite being one of the many candidates for The Big Bang Cure. He was also absent in the series finale as most metahumans were cured.
